Clinical Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology


Dr. Philomena Behar was born and raised in  Buffalo, New York., She graduated from the University of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1988.  She received her medical degree with honors from the University of Buffalo, School of Medicine and Bio medical Sciences in 1992.  After completing her otolaryngology residency in Buffalo, she completed a 2 year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  She began working in private practice as a pediatric otolaryngologist at the LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN in 1999.  She is the co-author of a number of medical publication and has presented many scientific papers at national meetings.  She joined PENTA in 2001.

Dr. Behar has a special interest in assisting families with children who have food allergies.  She enjoys cooking and baking.  Dr. Behar feels that home meal preparation is an important part of living with food allergies and promotes a healthy family lifestyle for everyone.   She is married with 2 children (one with a food allergy) and resides in Amherst.  Please visit Dr. Behar’s yummy recipe page to see recipes for delicious, home cooked foods.
