Making your own pizza is a fun activity to do with kids. I use my bread maker machine to on pizza dough cycle but you can mix by hand. Making pizza sauce is also easy and fun. Use your favorite toppings to create your own masterpiece!


  • 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 envelope yeast
  • 1 2/4 cups warm water

Pizza Sauce

  • 1 28 oz can organic crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 tsp dry basil or 2 tsp fresh chopped basil 
  • 1/2 tsp dry oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt 
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes 
Heat oven to 475 degrees. For thin, crispy NY style pizza, use a round non-stick 12-18 inch pan.
Makes about 4 thin pizzas or 2 thicker crust pizzas. For thicker pizza, roll out dough and let rise half hour in warm place on baking sheet. Thicker pizza will cook in about 20-25 minutes.

Allergy note: This recipe is egg, soy, milk and nut free.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Into the warm water, mix sugar and yeast packet. Let sit for 5 minutes. Put flour and salt into breadmaker. Add water mixture. Run bread machine on pizza dough cycle. Let rise in machine 2 hours.

Step 2

Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.

Step 3

Spray pan with olive oil non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle pan with panko bread- crumbs. Place dough on pan.

Step 4

In small non-stick sauce pan, place olive oil and onion. Cook onion for about 1-2 minutes on medium heat. Do not burn. Add crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper and cook for about 30 minutes. During the last 5 minutes of cooking, add basil and oregano.

Step 5

Place dough on pan. Top with sauce and toppings. Bake for 8-10 minutes on lower rack in oven.
