Philomena Behar, MD

Dr. Behar was born and raised in Buffalo. She graduated, magna cum laude, from SUNY Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1992. She completed her Otolaryngology residency in Buffalo in 1997 and then completed a 2 year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Immediately following her fellowship, she began her pediatric ENT career in Memphis, TN at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. In 2001, she returned to Buffalo and joined PENTA.

Dr. Behar is board certified and a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery and the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology. Over the past 20 years, she has trained many otolaryngology residents and fellows, and was selected by the UB otolaryngology residents as the Clinical Instructor of the Year in 2019 and in 2016. She is also actively involved in training physician assistant students from Daemen College and nurse practitioner students from D’Youville.

Dr. Behar has been selected as a Castle Connelly 2019 Top Women Physician and has been listed in Top Doctors for multiple years. Additionally, Dr. Behar is  active in clinical research and has presented her research at national meetings and published many papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Behar’s research has won the annual UB otolaryngology resident research award in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children. Dr. Behar enjoys cooking and reading. She has a particular interest in cooking for people with food allergies or dietary restrictions and is an avid supporter of Kids with Food Allergies (KFA) and Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). She also likes to run outdoors and work in her garden.
